Home for Christmas

XMASSTree2

XMASheader

Sorry I have been so slack on the blog lately, a lot of things have been going on! Christmas is such a busy time of the year and I literally haven’t had a minute to sit down and do a new post for you!

BUT… I am finally home for Christmas so hopefully I’ll be able to blog a lot more!

I am so excited about Christmas, it really is my favourite time of the year! I always love going to pick out our tree, we always end up arguing over what is a prettier shape and which has better leaves, it really is funny! We always get people laughing at us because we are so into picking the ‘best’ tree!

I think our tree is really lovely this year, we have moved into a new house so we had to choose a shape that would fit in the place we wanted it to go! I think this tree is the ‘typical’ shape, the sort you would draw!

Every year since we were little my sister and I have chosen a new decoration, it’s always really lovely to see our collection which has built up over time! Our new ones this year are the beautiful white and silver balls!

As you can tell our colour scheme hasn’t changed much, we always stick to red, silver and glass! I think it’s such a pretty and classic look!

Do you have a tree decorating tradition? Please do let me know if you have a post up of your tree, or home decorations, I’d love to see them!

Hope you’re all feeling really Christmassy now and are as excited as I am about next week!

Top 10 Things To Do in London at Christmas

CometoLondon

Top10London

London really is an amazing city, but at Christmas it just turns into a magical place! It really comes alive at Christmas, the lights are switched on, the air is cold, the shops are bustling with people, the Christmas spirit bursts from London, you can just feel it everywhere! It is a blessing to live here at this time of year!

I thought I would make a ‘Top 10 Things to Do’ post to help you if you are coming to London this month and are stuck with what to do to!

So, if you want to find out how to get that London Christmas feeling then keep on reading…

No1WinterWonderland

UsAllAtWinterWonderland2

Winter Wonderland is a magical kingdom full of all things Christmassy! It is packed, but that only helps make you feel part of something bigger and make you realise how important Christmas is to everybody! There are things for everyone here, from rides for little kids to bars and a spinning pub for adults! With enough food stalls to feed the world it is definitely a must do if you are in London at this time of the year.

Check out their website for more details if you are interested!

No2IceSkating

Ice skating is definitely my favourite thing to do before Christmas! It makes me feel so festive and elegant! Wrap up warm, and skate to Christmas songs under twinkling lights… but try not to fall over… it definitely ruins the sophisticated look I’m going for haha!

The picture above is from the ice rink at the National History Museum, but Somerset House is also a beautiful location to skate, we went there 2 years ago and it was magical!

No3XmasLights

Take a stroll along London’s most famous roads and take in the beautiful lights, I suggest walking along Oxford St, the lights are so understated and pretty!

BondStreetLights

If you fancy something a little more decadent then Bond Street have gone all out this year with their Peacock themed lights, they look incredible but very opulent!

RegentStLights

Regents Street also look very pretty with their ‘Night at the Museum’ themed lights – and all three of these locations are within walking distance so it would make for a lovely evening stroll!

SloaneSqLights

You should also take the time to go to Chelsea and walk around Sloane Square and The Duke of York Square. They have some of the prettiest lights I have seen this year!

No4Fortnum&Masons

I also suggest having a browse in the window’s of some of London’s most exclusive shops! Fortnum and Mason’s window looks incredible, they have delved into London’s past this year, taking inspiration from the famous River Thames Frost Fairs. Markets and carnivals took place on the frozen waters and their window’s have brought this to life with beautiful frozen displays ladened with festive gifts and decorations.

No4Harrods

Harrods’ window is as incredible and over the top as always this year. It transports you to the Land of the Make Believe with a display of over sized toys. 11 of the world’s most luxury designers have contributed in creating these unique pieces. From Zuhair Muad’s Ballerina (pictured above) to Stella McCartney’s princess. The theme continues inside with the toys featured in the windows being able to be bought in store.

 SelfridgesWindow

DestinationChristmas

Selfridges also have a beautiful window and they haven’t disappointed this year! They have taken inspiration from the tradition of storytelling this Christmas, celebrating 25 of the most enchanting tales. These stories have been brought to life in the windows, from Cinderella and Sleeping Beauty to The Golden Goose and Rumplestiltskin. Above the entrance, is a dazzling ‘Destination Christmas’ sign which is made using over 1000 metres of neon lights and featuring fairytale symbols with a Selfridges twist.

No5Paddington

Paddington3

I also advise you to go and seek out some of the Paddington Bears which are dotted around London! They are only around until the 30th December so definitely don’t miss the opportunity! They are so cute, and designed by different celebrities. You can read about my journey to see Paddington here!

No6Monty'sGarden

Me and Monty

(Excuse the no make up, real casual look – I wasn’t expecting photos… but then I found Monty)

John Lewis have also pulled out all the stops this year with their rooftop garden which is home to their advert favourite, Monty the Penguin! AJ and I were so surprised to see this on a visit there this week!

They have really made such an effort up here, with fake grass, beautiful snugs to sit and relax and a hot chocolate bar to keep your insides warm while you take in the spectacular views of London under the fake snow!

No7CoventGarden

CoventGarden

Covent Garden is so pretty at this time of the year, the square is alight with beautiful lights! There is a huge Christmas tree, oversized baubles and this gorgeous reindeer! You’ve definitely got to go and have a little walk around this beautiful market place.

No8SouthBank

The Southbank has made a real effort this year with their Winter Festival. There is a new Christmas Market with beautifully designed stalls, which lays out the most delicious festive food, handmade craft gifts and warming drinks. You can cosy up at the ‘Cider Lodge’ or enjoy spectacular views at the ‘Viewing Deck Bar’ and warm-up at the ‘Christmas Tree Cafe’.

You definitely don’t want to be missing this festive treat.

No9Kew

Kew Gardens have installed a glittering new trail this year, it is a mile long and it winds its way among the famous botanical gardens which are lit up by beautiful lights. It really is a magical night time experience.

This year you’ll find giant light sculptures, the Tunnel of Lights and Mistletoe Moments. With Christmas trees, festive treats and music along the way, you’ll have the perfect Christmas experience

No10TrafalgarSq

Last, but certainly not least, why not go and see the famous Christmas Tree in Trafalgar Square. The tree is given to England every year as a gift by Norway in memory of the refuge that the Allies gave members of the Norwegian government and royal family during World War II. I bet you didn’t know that now did you! Even getting a little bit of history from my blog today haha!

As well as the tree itself – which is decorated in traditional Norwegian fashion and whose lights were switched on by the Mayor of Oslo on December 1 – visitors can also enjoy nightly carol singing in the square. Just don’t forget to wrap up warm!

I hope I’ve inspired you to take a trip to London this season and if you already had one planned then hopefully I’ve made your pick of sightseeing a little easier!

Please let me know if you have been or do go to any of these Christmassy attractions and tell me what you thought of them! Also, if you feel as though I have missed anything major then please tell me what you think I should be doing in London this Christmas!

Camel & Black3

It was such a lovely day yesterday but Winter is well and truly here, it was freezing! I have to give credit and thanks to my boyfriend, who is my photographer and his hands were freezing taking these pictures bless him!

I just threw this outfit together for a spot of Christmas shopping on Oxford Street so I thought I would take some pictures as I’ve been quiet on my blog recently!

I thought ‘Into the Wild’ was an appropriate name, what with the camel and snake print! Do you get it? I hope so!

I love the combination of camel and black together, I think it is a classic and timeless look! I added some pattern by pairing it with this gorgeous snake print scarf! Snake print is definitely one of my favourite prints and I love scarfs, which is handy in the winter I suppose!

I also added some colour with my berry lip, which I am loving this season, although I’m not sure i’m converted from being a nude lip girl just yet!

Winter Wonderland

DestinationChristmas

With the 1st of December already upon us, what better way of welcoming it in than by doing a spot of evening Christmas shopping on Oxford St, walking along under the lights and going to Winter Wonderland! The lights all look so pretty and the shop windows are filled with their festive displays!

It was so lovely to have AJ’s sister and her boyfriend up for the day, we all get along really well so it was lovely to see them!

I didn’t take my camera so these are just a few photos from my phone, which don’t really do it justice, but I wanted to share with you my Sunday!

Christmas Present Ideas for Men

Mens Pressies

Men Gifts Header

I know men can be really tricky to buy for, I never know what to get my boyfriend or my dad for Christmas, I’m lucky that I don’t have a brother, because Christmas is stressful enough catering for those two, so I thought I would come up with some ideas for you to make your Christmas shopping a little easier this year!

I’ll also try to choose gifts which are affordable, as this is something I definitely need to keep in mind when shopping as I am living on a student budget after all.

Idea No.1

Aftershaves

AFTERSHAVE

I know people think that women are the only one’s bothered about smelling nice but come on, what man doesn’t want to smell nice? I know my boyfriend loves to have a different aftershave and he puts it on every day without fail!

This can be quite a pricy present to buy but there are some great deals out there, especially the box sets as you get added extras like shower gel for the same price.

The ‘Boss Bottled’ and ‘Boss Bottled Night’ are a great choice, they smell amazing and come in at a really good price! Especially considering that Boss Bottled is an Award winner for 2014, you can’t go wrong!

I also love Dolce & Gabbana ‘The One for Men’ – I think it is a beautiful scent, very sophisticated and elegant and definitely a good choice for the men in your life. I think it would be a great choice for the more mature man.

Idea No.2

Grooming

MENS GROOMING KIT

I know men aren’t typically associated with beautifying like us girls are but I think in this day and age it has become acceptable for men to want to look nice and to make an effort with their appearance. I think these sets are a really nice idea for your boyfriend or perhaps your dad, who may need a little help with his appearance, sorry dads!

For the men that like to look good, I think this is a lovely gift idea, as it’s the sort of thing people don’t like spending too much money on, so it would be a real treat! After all, that’s what Christmas is about isn’t it? Treating your loved ones.

I think this Clarins set is a really nice option, it is perhaps a little pricey at £38, but Clarins is a high end brand with great quality skin care products! If you brought all the items separetly it would come to over £68 so that’s a great saving and not too daunting for a student budget. It includes a Moisture Balm, Exfoliating Cleanser, Smooth Shave Gel and an Eye Serum! It all comes in a wash bag so I think this is a lovely present!

A much cheaper version would be this one from Nivea, it is only £10 and includes Shower Gel, Deodorant, Face Wash and Post Shave Balm! Nivea is a very good drugstore brand and known for their skincare so you couldn’t go wrong buying this for your men!

Idea No.3

Socks

SOCKS

You can never go wrong with a nice pair of christmassy socks! I’m pretty sure I’ve brought my dad socks for Christmas every year that I can remember! I know it seems like a bit of a boring present but they’re the things that will actually get used, so you won’t be wasting your money! This is something which us students, or those with a tight budget need to bear in mind!

I love these Christmassy ones from M&S, they’re so cute and will be sure to keep their feet warm all winter long!

Idea No.4

Slippers

SLIPPERS

Along the same line as socks but it’s always nice to have a new pair of slippers at Christmas! Although you only wear slippers around the house they always seem to be the pair of footwear which gets trashed the easiest and look a bit sad after the year is out! It would be nice to be able to make your man’s feet all snuggly again! I love these Monty the Penguin slippers from John Lewis, they are sooo cute!

Idea No.5

Bonsai Tree

A BONSAI TREE

I think this such a great idea for a present, it is ‘manly’ plant, I don’t actually know if plants can be ‘manly’ but I’ll go with it! They’re the perfect gift as I’m sure your boyfriend, brother or  dad hasn’t thought about getting one so it would be a surprise but they would make for a lovely decoration in their home. They can be really pricy but I found this one for a great price!

Idea No.6

Projector

SMARTPHONE PROJECTOR

For those that have everything, this smartphone projector is a great idea! This transforms your room into a mini cinema, courtesy of your smartphone! This is a great novelty gift and something that will definitely entertain your loved one all Christmas day and I’m sure they would be showing their mates what a cool present they were brought.

Idea No.7

Maps

SCRATCH-OFF MAP

This is something that I’ve thought was brilliant for such a long time! You can scratch off the places you’ve been around the world and they will change colour! My boyfriend brought his dad one for his birthday and he loved it so I definitely think yours will too!

There is a World map version and a UK version for the less adventurous and if you want to go all out there is a Deluxe version which is the nicest of all! They would also look really nice framed as a piece of art on the wall, and it would be something really personal!

Idea No.8

Cooking Manual

MEN’S COOKING MANUAL

Are you the one doing all the cooking? This cooking book would be a great idea, it is set out like a manual, something which would appeal to men and it is full of deliciously simple recipes which will get them cooking in no time!

Idea No.9

Books

1001 BOOKS

These books can be a great toilet or coffee table read, they have a range of subjects and I’m sure you’ll find one to suit your male’s interests, they range from Inventions and Movies to Wines and Cars.

Idea No.10

Willy Care

WILLY CARE KIT

This is definitely a joke present but if your male loved ones like a joke gift then this could be the gift for them! You never know, it could be the thing they’ve always wanted?

I hope this has been really helpful and may have made Christmas shopping a little easier for those high maintenance males! Please let me know if you have any other great present ideas for men, I’m always looking for new ideas!

If you buy any of these, please let me know how they go down after Christmas! I look forward to hearing from you!

Would you be interested in another post for Gift Ideas for women? My mum is the hardest person to buy for, so if yours is too I could definitely do this for you!

It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas

Xmas Lights Header

Last night AJ (my boyfriend) and I decided we’d go and see the switch on of the Oxford Street Christmas lights. We did a little shopping before hand and then wandered down to John Lewis for 5 o’clock when the event was about to take place! We severely underestimated how busy it would be, I didn’t realise it would be such a big event with such a massive crowd! We tried to get closer to the stage but we ended up getting crushed in a massive crowd! We decided we’d walk back to some more open space! By the time we’d found open space we couldn’t even hear the performers anymore, Rixton opened the show and then Neon Jungle and Jess Glyne performed, not that we saw or heard any of it!

We decided we’d have a look around John Lewis until it was time for the lights to be turned on! I always forget what a lovely experience John Lewis is, I love it in there! Especially now all the Christmas bits are out! I’m so excited! Christmas is my favourite time of the year!

We went outside at 6 and did the countdown with Cheryl, and then the lights came on and they looked absolutely stunning, the whole length of Oxford Street both ways was covered in beautiful lit up balls (the same as last year because they were so popular). Even though we didn’t get to see/hear any performances it was well worth going as I’m now feeling very festive!

Did any of you go to the turn on? Are you feeling in the Christmas spirit yet?
